2026 Agronomic Plan at Sandpines Golf Links: Elevating Oregon Coast Golf

February 10, 2026 by tarabahl

At Sandpines Golf Links, exceptional Oregon Coast golf starts with a thoughtful, season-long agronomic plan. Located in Florence, Oregon, perfectly positioned between Bandon Dunes and Salishan Resort, and 60 miles from Eugene, Oregon, Sandpines is proud to be one of the most consistently acclaimed golf courses on the Oregon coast.

Designed by legendary architect Rees Jones — “The Open Doctor” — and recognized with numerous industry awards, Sandpines Golf Links continues to invest in course conditions, sustainability, and playability. Below is a detailed look at our 2026 Agronomic Plan, outlining how we care for the course throughout the year to deliver a premium golf experience.

Winter 2026: Course Improvements & Infrastructure Enhancements

The 2026 season is already well underway with key winter projects focused on improving both aesthetics and long-term turf health. Our agronomy team has been actively working on:

  • Bunker renovation projects to enhance drainage, consistency, and playability
  • Cart path edging to improve visual appeal and golfer safety
  • Venting of greens, tees, and fairways to promote oxygen flow and strong root systems
  • Removal of downed trees and strategic trimming of native areas to improve turf health and course presentation

These improvements are essential for maintaining Sandpines’ reputation as a premier Florence Oregon golf course and a top alternative to Bandon Dunes for golfers seeking world-class conditions with fewer crowds.

Spring Agronomic Practices: Aerification, Topdressing & Growth

Spring is the backbone of our agronomic calendar and plays a major role in delivering the firm, fast conditions Sandpines is known for.

March

  • Core aerification of tees and fairways
  • Fertilization programs begin to initiate spring growth

April 13–15

  • Core aerification of greens
  • Heavy topdressing of greens, tees, and approaches to improve firmness and drainage

Topdressing is already a standard practice on our greens and is expanded during spring aerification to ensure consistent ball roll and improved playability throughout the season. During this time, our irrigation system is fully tested and calibrated to prepare for peak growing conditions.

As spring progresses into May, we implement our integrated weed and pest management protocols, protecting turf quality while maintaining environmentally responsible practices.

Summer on the Oregon Coast: Moss Management & Peak Conditions

Summer brings some of the best golf weather on the Oregon coast, and Sandpines Golf Links is dialed in to deliver prime playing conditions.

A key focus during summer months is moss control, particularly common among coastal golf courses. In 2026, we are enhancing our approach by:

  • Shifting preventative applications from a 28-day to a 21-day cycle
  • Allowing healthy turf to outcompete moss more effectively
  • Applying focused treatments to Number 7 green
  • Including tees and fairways in moisture management and growth regulator programs
  • Continuing active venting of all playing surfaces throughout the summer

These combined efforts result in firmer fairways, smoother greens, and a consistently enjoyable experience for golfers traveling the Oregon coast.

Fall Golf at Sandpines: Finishing Strong & Preparing for Winter

Fall is widely regarded as one of the best times to play Oregon Coast golf, and Sandpines truly shines during this season. As we transition toward dormancy, our agronomic focus shifts to protecting turf through the winter and setting the stage for a strong spring.

Fall maintenance includes:

  • Final fertilizer application to sustain turf health through winter
  • Continued venting to maintain soil structure
  • Cold-weather fungicide applications
  • Full irrigation inspection and system shutdown

These steps allow Sandpines Golf Links to emerge from winter healthy, resilient, and ready for another exceptional season.
